Rework

It’s been awhile since I’ve read any dead trees but it’s fun to see what you can find in the forest.

I’m no book reviewer but I figured I’d post my thoughts on Rework. It’s a book for people who are thinking about starting their own business, but it’s written in a very human tone. It’s formatted and feels like you’re reading a website. Chapters are 2-3 pages and the font and line spacing is easy on the eyes. On that note some reviews on Amazon suggest that some content from this book is actually available on the 37signals blog, but since I’ve never read that, this book was a great introduction to their writing style.

Why am I posting about this book on this blog? Well, the illustrations reminded me of the art style of World of Goo (go play it!) which is always nice. Some of the concepts introduced reinforced my teachings from FIEA and the way Nintendo seems to handle some of their business. I know I’m being vague here, but it’s a decent book for everyone needing something to get their gears turning. (people hitting creative roadblocks included) Even if you’re not thinking about starting a business, it’s fun to take the concepts introduced and see how they apply to the game industry. You can easily finish the book in a sitting or two.
